Columbus day in US sees celebration and protest


He's a man credited with the founding of the new world. It's been 518 years since Explorer Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas. The historic moment is honored every year in the U.S. with a federally recognized Holiday. Columbus day, which is the second Monday of every October, usually means no work or school for Americans. However, Indigenous and Native groups insist the history of how Columbus conquered the Americas is not acknowledged and contains a dark reality. It's what has led to a national movement to renounce Columbus Day
