Five protestors, four veterans and one spouse, attempted to blockade a public street used by the military for mass deployments. The convoy was stopped for approximately 10 seconds while police and military personnel shoved them out of the road. Activists later declared their protest a "success" and vowed to return during every successive deployment from Fort Hood, in hopes of forcing the military to deploy soldiers under maximum security conditions. Matthis Chiroux says he was beaten and carried out of the street by soldiers and police using rifles and dogs.

The 7th annual Rock the Bells concert welcomed mainstream and underground hip hop artists to the metropolitan area. Concert goers were concerned that mainstream rap music has contributed to the degradation of what some viewed as a powerful tool for mobilizing the black community; Hip hop. Now, hip hop fans are moving towards more political rap for inspiration.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, police in New Orleans confiscated thousands of guns from residents in an effort to keep guns out of the hands of anyone who wasn't law enforcement. Louisiana residents feel that their constitutional rights were violated and proceeded to sue the city of New Orleans with the help of the NRA. They believe that in the aftermath of Katrina, the city of New Orleans forgot the fundamental rights of the United States.

The United States constitution says that every citizen has the right to carry a gun for self defense. However, five years ago in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina people were having their guns taken from them and collected by law enforcement. Alex Jones says that much of the looting that occurred in New Orleans in the immediate days after Hurricane Katrina hit land was done by police and other civil officers.

Many who lost their homes in Katrina are still living on the streets, and others who came to the city in the aftermath of the storm and the oil spill hoping to find a job also ended up without a job or a place to live. While some places in New Orleans are close to where they were before the storms, others, especially in the lower ninth ward where most of the devastation took place - are still desolate.
