North Korea and South Korea exchanged artillery fire yesterday. All the while the United States dollar has strengthened as bad blood between North and South Korea means big business for the US. Investigative journalist Webster Tarpley says the financial district is taking part in a flight to safety moving money in the US treasury, using North Korea as a catalyst to make other nations depend on the US.

EU pessimism vs. US optimism


Most Americans are optimistic for a financial turnaround and expect the US economy to rebound. However, England and the European Union aren't convinced and remain pessimistic about a recovery. Michel Chossudovsky from the Center for Research on Globalization says that most Europe countries are functional welfare states. They have public healthcare, pension funds as opposed to the US that does not and most of the services are privatized.

Sarkozy: Tax the banks!

The United Nations General Assembly kicks off with a summit on the millennium development goals with the aim to cut world poverty in half by 2015. The three day summit on the millennium development goals begins with the sobering fact that the organization is $20 billion dollars short on the 2010 commitment. Webster Tarpley says he agrees with French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who says in order to make some progress the obvious solution is tax the banks, the people who caused the economic failure.
