Met police chief Sir Bernard Hogan Howe again refused to apologised for the failed sex abuse investigation into army veteran Lord Brammall, claiming today that there is 'nothing to apologise for'.
His repeated refusal to say sorry for his police force's heavy-handed way it raided the home of Lord Brammall enraged MPs as he faced questions over the Met's handling of the investigation into VIP historical child abuse.
He faced accusations of inconsistency after he apologised to the widow of Lord Brittan earlier this month over the Met's failure to inform her that her late husband had been cleared of a rape allegation.
Sir Bernard faced an angry grilling by MPs in Parliament today, who demanded to know why he had apolgised to Lady Brittan but not Lord Brammall.
The police probes into historical abuse claims against high-profile figures were branded 'witch-hunts' last week after several high-profile scandals, including the handling of an investigation into the innocent Lord Bramall.
The D-Day veteran, 92, was accused of historical sex abuse and had his home raided by 22 officers in front of his dying wife.
The detectives spent ten hours rifling through his possessions as his wife, who was suffering from Alzheimer's disease, was 'shunted' from room to room. He spent ten months under investigation, during which time his wife died, before police admitted they had no evidence against him.

It came as it emerged that Sir Bernard is to sit down with Lord Brittan's widow this week to discuss Scotland Yard's shambolic handling of the VIP paedophile scandal.
The Met commissioner will talk with Lady Brittan about the rape allegation made against her late husband, who like Lord Bramall was investigated on the word of a suspected 'serial fantasist' known only as Nick.
Lord Brittan, the former home secretary, died in 2015 still unaware that he had been cleared of the accusation - despite police knowing that he was innocent for two months.
Britain's most senior police officer will explain the circumstances of the investigation to Lady Brittan.
He is expected to apologise for the probe - but is not thought to be willing to do the same for unfounded allegations of child abuse aimed at Lord Brittan.
Nick claimed he had been sexually assaulted by a paedophile ring that included Brittan, Bramall, the former prime minister Sir Edward Heath, the former Tory MP Harvey Proctor and past heads of MI5 and MI6.

Men are posting brazen advertisements online offering 'open-minded and uninhibited' women a rent free place to stay in exchange for sex.
A number of advertisements targeting international students and backpackers in Queensland have been posted on classified websites like Craigslist and Locanto spruiking a 'free' place to stay for females who are willing to take care of their host's 'more intimate needs'.
'You do not need to be working or have an income to live here as everything is provided for you,' an ad for an apartment in Surfers Paradise reads.
'In return you will help around the house with cleaning up and keeping the place clean, as well as take care of my more intimate needs.'

The advertiser, who is looking for a female tenant between the ages of 18 and 35, offers short or long term arrangements - even joking that a like-minded visitor could stay for yeas if they were willing.
The apartment has wifi, a pool and gym access, while the Australian advertiser says he is in his 30s and describes himself as having 'average looks and build'.


Another ad for 'free backpacker accommodation' in Noosa Heads, north of Brisbane, states the host is seeking one or two fit females, 'no older then [sic] 30ish' who will help clean, cook and 'provide company'.
The 26-year-old, who describes himself as athletic, stipulates that the boarder would be sharing a room with him but says he and his other female house mate work a lot and are not often home.

Another ad for 'free backpacker accommodation' in Noosa Heads, north of Brisbane, states the host is seeking one or two fit females, 'no older then [sic] 30ish' who will help clean, cook and 'provide company'.
An additional ad, seen by Domain, sought a 'carefree and open' female house mate who likes 'those cuddle puddle massage circles at outdoor doof parties'.
It is not illegal to offer rent free accommodation in return for sex unless one of the parties involved has been coerced but some are concerned the practice preys on vulnerable members of the community.
Di Macleod, director of the Gold Coast centre against sexual violence, said the issue had long plagued women with lower-socio-economic status and was only now evolving into the digital sphere.
'I know on the Gold Coast we have had problems like this with share houses for as long as I can remember,' Ms Macleod told Domain.

But some are concerned the practice preys on vulnerable members of the community
She said a number of women have come in that were oblivious to the fact their landlord was expecting sexual favours in exchange for rent free accommodation and insisted that classified ads of that nature should be regulated.
'The ads should be looked at and if seen to be obviously preying on the vulnerable, should be removed,' she said.
Political scientist Barbara Sullivan has studied the rights of sex workers in Australia and says that regulating or prohibiting sex as a method of payment for accommodation would only drive vulnerable people underground where they are more isolated from community support or legal protection.
'From my perspective, the problem is economic vulnerability. And the solution is to provide better income support and more information about where to go for help,' she told Domain.
