An 'isolated' pensioner dubbed the Pigeon Woman has been banned from feeding the birds in her garden and told she must pay more than £2,400 after her neighbours complained.
Katherine Spiller, from east Oxford, was issued with a community protection notice in February last year after residents complained about swarms of birds.
The 66-year-old, who writes poems about pigeons, ignored the order - and was taken to court after she continued to put out bird seed.
She has now been handed a £640 fine for breaching the order eight times. She must also pay a £64 victim surcharge and £1,729 in prosecution costs.
The retired library assistant, speaking after the court case, said she fed the pigeons because she enjoyed their company and was otherwise isolated.
She said: 'I enjoy the company of pigeons and I enjoy feeding them.
'They're so appreciative of the food and I'm appreciative of their company. They give so much back and I get a lot out of the time I spend with them.
'I used to feed the pigeons in town, but back in 2008 a new law was introduced equating it with littering - so I stopped feeding them in town because there would be fines, and started doing it from home. I never dreamed I'd get in trouble for it.'



Oxford Magistrates' Court heard Ms Spiller was handed the community protection notice by Oxford City Council after a number of complaints.
But the 'habitual bird feeder' failed to abide by the notice and continued to feed the pigeons at her terraced property.

The court was shown pictures of dozens of pigeons perched on her roof and window ledges. Some were also spotted sitting on neighbouring buildings.
Jeremy Franklin, representing Oxford City Council, said Ms Spiller flouted the notice eight times between August and October 2015.
He said: 'The defendant is a habitual feeder of birds, mostly pigeons, which congregate around her house in large numbers, causing a certain amount of distress and antagonism to the neighbours.
'The warning notice required the defendant to cease dropping bird seed or foodstuffs that would encourage birds, vermin or other animals in her garden or anywhere and to keep her garden free from weeds and plants providing shelter to vermin and other animals.

'Despite the imposition of the notice, the defendant was found to have breached it by continuing to feed the pigeons. Those charged with dealing with this problem are at their wits' end.'
Ms Spiller, who did not attend the hearing, sent a letter to the court admitting she failed to comply with the notice.
Mr Franklin said the city council might have to take further action to stop Ms Spiller feeding pigeons if she couldn't change her ways.

A psychiatrist and her marine engineer husband have been accused of bringing a 28-year-old 'au pair' to Britain and turning her into a slave.
Minu and Sanjeev Chopra, both 47, have been charged with arranging for the woman to come to the UK with the intention of exploiting her and with holding her in slavery or servitude.
The alleged offences relate to two periods spanning five years.

Neighbours of the couple, who have an eight-year-old son, said the alleged victim lived with the family as an au pair, according to The Times.
Those who live nearby Mr and Mrs Chopra in the upmarket Bamford area of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, described the couple as 'decent'.
One neighbour, who did not want to be named, told The Times: 'There must have been some mistake over the paperwork or something like that because I see her around a lot.


'She never seemed in distress and she's been with them for two years in that house. I think she was with them in their previous house as well.
'I have spoken to her many times and she has never made any complaint to me. She never seemed upset or anything like that.'
Police said the alleged victim was removed from Mr and Mrs Chopra's home and is being cared for by partner agencies.
Dr Chopra, who was said by a neighbour to work as a psychiatrist at the Royal Bolton Hospital, appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody.
Her husband was arrested on Saturday and remanded into custody before appearing at Bury and Rochdale Magistrates' Court yesterday.

He describes himself as a chief engineer for Herald Marine services - a company which has its headquarters in Mumbai, India.
Greater Manchester Police said officers attended an address in Bamford on Thursday and arrested a 47-year-old woman on suspicion of slavery, servitude and forced labour offences under the Slavery Act 2015.
She and her husband, of Cranbourne Road, Rochdale, were later charged with holding a person in slavery or servitude between July 31 2015 and February 11 2016.
The couple were also charged with intentionally arranging or facilitating entry into the UK of a person with a view to their exploitation, and knowingly holding another person in slavery or servitude between January 1 2011 and July 31 2015.
The maximum sentence for offences under the Slavery Act 2015 is 14 years in prison.
The couple are expected to appear together at Manchester Minshull St Crown Court on March 11.

A ‘heroine’ police dog who died in a high-profile Paris terrorist raid was blasted to death by officers who were meant to be on her side, it was confirmed emerged today.
They not only killed Diesel, a seven-year-old Belgian Shepherd, but wounded innocent neighbours and threatened at least five other policemen with their reckless shooting.
Their shields and body armour were all hit by round upon round of Brenneke bullets – ones widely used by special forces – during the attack on a house in the suburb of Saint-Denis in November.

It led to the deaths of at least two terrorists who had taken part in the attacks on Paris that month in which 130 people were killed.
But those inside the house only had one automatic pistol between them, and were in no position to fight back with any kind of effectiveness.


The revelations are a huge embarrassment for the elite RAID police group, which had been widely honoured for its professionalism during the attack.
Diesel was due to receive a posthumous Dickin medal – Britain’s animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross.
‘Diesel was killed by Brennekes’ said Jean-Michel Fauvergue, who commanded the operation by the RAID, which stands for Research, Assistance, Intervention, and Deterrence.
His force uses Brennekes slugs – special forces ammunition produced by the German company Brenneke GmbH.
Commander Fauvergue has admitted that ‘saturation fire’ was used to kill Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the 26-year-old leader of the Paris terrorists, and fellow killer Chakib Akrouh, 25.
But Abaaoud’s female cousin, Hasna Ait Boulahcen, also 26, was also riddled with bullets and died in the attack as she tried to give herself up.
Her surviving family has since launched proceedings against the Raid for murder, while at least two neighbours hit by bullets are consulting lawyers.

Both are from ethnic minority backgrounds, but had absolutely nothing to do with the terrorists.
Five RAID officers also reported friendly fire penetrations to their equipment in the storm of Brenneke bullets that hit the property in the early hours of November 18.
Diesel, who was due to retire after a distinguished career, was specially trained to enter dangerous areas so as to bite enemies.
Now the RAID are trying to work out why she was sent into a house which they were pouring live fire into.
A spokesman for the Paris prosecutor said there would be no formal inquest into Diesel’s death, nor any kind of autopsy on the animal.
Forensic examination has established that up to 5,000 rounds of police ammunition was used during the Saint-Denis raid, while the terrorists fired around 11 bullets back.

Six women and five men have been jailed and sentenced to 300 lashes after holding a drunken beach party in Saudi Arabia.
The group were charged with 'obscenity' after police found alcohol and indecent pictures during a raid on a villa in the city of Jedda.
Some were drunk and resisted arrest after officers from the vice squad were called to the property following complaints from neighbours.
Under Saudi law, women are not allowed to mingle with men unless they are related.

The group were initially given jail sentences ranging from eight days to a year and 150 lashes, it was reported by Breitbart.
But their prison terms were increased and their flogging sentence raised to 300 lashes after a failed appeal.


Saudi Arabia has some of the strictest Islamic laws in the world.
Drinking is banned and women must cover themselves in public and not mix with the opposite sex.

Last week, the country's morality police reportedly barred women from a Starbucks and told to send 'their driver' to get a coffee for them instead after a 'gender barrier' wall had collapsed.
Signs in Arabic and English were put up on doors to the coffee shop telling women not to enter.

Yesterday it was also reported that a man had been arrested by Saudi Arabia's morality police for wearing a cartoon costume of a woman showing skin.
British grandfather Karl Andree, 74, was also sentenced to 378 lashes for brewing homemade wine.

But he was finally spared after spending more than a year in jail following a public appeal by his family who feared the punishment would kill him.
The Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, as it is officially known, is responsible for ensuring Islamic laws like those are not broken in public.
But it has repeatedly been accused of human rights violations.
In 2002, the committee refused to allow female students out of a burning school in the holy city of Mecca because they were not wearing correct head cover.
The decision is thought to have contributed to the high death toll of 15.
